Drop down menu shows words but reflects a number
Ive been looking for some time now and cant seem to find (or even know how to look) for an answer. I want to create a drop down menu in google spreadsheets that shows a name. The names value, however, will be a number. When that name is selected, the number is activated in an equation somewhere to reflect a change in that equation. An example:

Bar of soap:$8
Shampoo:$32
Face Wash:$44
(expensive stuff!)

When you drop down the menu for bar of soap and another drop down is quantity, would reflect the change in the equation. but the drop down would show the name of the product, not the number. And a side question: I get errors when I validate numbers when they have been rounded up with a price. Is there a way to prevent those errors? I cant wait until you brilliant forum readers can help me!

There is no direct way to accomplish what you want -- even if we were to use Range Names -- these can not begin with numbers ...
however, I can accomplish the intent of what you are trying to accomplish as presented in the following
